Zero waste to landfill,
It really Works!

Our council like others in New Zealand has a zero waste to landfill by 2015 vision/policy. Looking at the images on this page we would all agree that policy is already a huge success - This waste sure isn't in any landfill!

Responsibilities

Of course the persons who deposit this rubbish are "offenders" and can be prosecuted. Catching them is entirely a different matter. I have to say though that our Local Authority (Westland District Council) is well aware of the situation. Some of the sites pictured here were visited by the Council some years ago and cleaned up. But that was then - this is now!

Most definitely much of this illegally dumped rubbish has been here for a long time. I have been reporting it for several years. Others have notified the council telling them of these illegal dumps also.

Unpure New Zealand believes that it is the role of the authority to monitor and deal with this issue. Responsible citizens did not do this.

"The 100% Pure New Zealand brand does establish a level of expectation among potential visitors that New Zealand's natural environment will be clean and well cared for. Government, and our tourism agencies, recognize the importance of the natural environment in fulfilling New Zealand's marketing promise. This creates an incentive for all of New Zealand to take action to ensure we live up to the 100% Pure New Zealand promise."
