FAQ

What is a Slimline Mount ?

> A. Slimline Mounted prints are complete and ready to hang on the wall. Slimline mounted prints are laminated with high quality UV laminate in our own studios. The laminate allows the picture to be wiped with a damp cloth for cleaning. The UV laminate is not sprayed on – it is a thin plastic film that is applied using a high quality thermal process. The print is then adhered to a slim composite board under huge pressure ensuring permanency. Float strips float the picture off the wall and a strong hanging wire/hook is attached. Slimline mounted prints are ready to hang on the wall. Slimline prints are strong, light weight and ideal for shipping overseas.

Canvas and large size Hahnemuhle prints are shown as shipped rolled. What does that mean?

> A.  We are not able to ship larger sizes overseas as stretched or matted prints.  It is just too expensive.  You will need to get that done at home.  Stretching is a simple and very common job that any professional framer can undertake at a very reasonable cost. We include full guidelines for framers.  The canvas image will have a 40mm black border outside the image size to allow the image a “museum wrap” Hahnemuhle fine art prints are shipped rolled ready to frame and are 308gsm

I am a New Zealand customer. Will you ship stretched ready to hang?

> A. Yes, we will ship ready to hang stretched canvas within New Zealand by courier. Please contact us for a price.

Museum v Gallery Wraps

> Q.  You use a “museum wrap” which is a black border around the edge of the frame.  Do you do “gallery wraps” which wraps the image around the edge of the picture instead?

> A. No, we do not like gallery wraps.  The gallery wrap has become popular with some photographers.  Gallery wrap is well suited to abstract images but not to landscape in our opinion.  Fine art landscape images are carefully crafted by arranging the components within the image.  The last thing we want to do is lead the eye of the viewer out of the image!

Are your canvas prints laminated? Are your art prints laminated?

> A.  Yes. Laminates for canvas are water based high quality, waterproof and provide UV protection.  They are sprayed onto the canvas using a special process and have three separate transparent coatings.  Art prints are supplied not laminated and intended for conventional framing.

> Q. Can my Hahnemuhle fine art print be spray laminated?  Why would I do that anyway?

> A.  Yes, we can do that.  There is one great benefit to this and that is the picture can be framed without glass.  The cost of laminating is extra and you will need to email us to arrange this. Hahnemuhle is especially formulated to take sprayed lamination.

Sizes

> Q. What is does A3 mean?

> A. A3 means that the image is printed on a A3 sheet of paper that is 297x420mm (11¾ x 16½).  The final image will be smaller than that as we have to allow a border for matting etc.  A3 means we fit the maximum we can on an A3 sized sheet of paper.

> Q. What is does A2 mean?

> A. A2 means that the image is printed on a A2 sheet of paper that is 420 x 594mm (16½ x 23¼). The final image will be smaller than that as we have to allow a border for matting etc. A2 means we fit the maximum we can on an A2 sized sheet of paper.

> Q. What about Canvas sizes?

> A. Canvas is a material that will shrink a little when drying after printing.  Sizes can vary by a few mm.

> Q. What about Slim Line mounted print sizes?

> A. Once the image is printed it needs to be trimmed back to the size of the board.  Image will be a few mm smaller than the printed size. A3 means we fit the maximum we can on an A3 sized sheet of paper.
